Park Suki began her literary career in 1995, winning the Hankook Ilbo New Year's Literary Contest. She has published numerous works, including the novels Cheerful Madness, In Search of a Kiss, The Selfish Gene, Sartre Needed Three Women, and I’m Not Ready to Go Home Yet. She has also released an art essay titled You Are an Artist. Since her first exhibition in 2014, she has held ten solo exhibitions and is active as a painter.

This novel is a candid exploration of the "history of sexuality" from a woman’s perspective. The protagonist, Han Ji-o, calmly and straightforwardly narrates her journey through the different stages of sexual development, from her relationship with her mother, her first menstruation, her experiences with smoking, the memory of her first love, her first kiss, her first sexual encounter, and her imagined physical relationships, to her broad reflections on love and the difficult process of marriage.
The novel paints a portrait of the various marks left on a woman’s body and soul, which together form a unique history. Despite exploring diverse sexual experiences, the protagonist’s desire for love remains passionate and pure. Park Suki started writing this novel out of a desire to challenge the conventional narratives around love, while acknowledging their validity. For her, a kiss symbolizes "absolute purity" or "complete love." The pursuit of this lost kiss represents the quest for the absolutes of love—a desire that, for women, may never be fully realized but is impossible to relinquish, driving them forward in a state of perpetual longing.
